Hi Rich,

Thanks for your reply. It reminded me that I did have a soil test done 8/96 in
my new "northwoods" garden. I requested recommendations for Azalea and
Rhododendrons because this is where I want to grow acid loving plants.
(Earlier soil tests showed that the pH in my yard was between 6.5 and 7.4.) I
had added coffee grounds and pine needles during the winter before I did the
"northwoods" test. The soil test showed the pH had dropped to 5.1!!! The
soil test recommended a pH of 4.0 and 5.5 for Azaleas and Rhodies. It said to
use 2.4 lbs/100sq ft. of elemental sulfur one year prior to planting. Well I
didn't use it because the pH was within the recommendations already. I have
already planted this garden. I don't know how long the effects of the coffee
grounds and pine needles will last. I'll continue to add pine needles but not
coffee grounds (they get really smelly unless dug in). Should I still
sprinkle elemental sulfur on or use the iron sulfate that is aging in my
basement? Should I use a scale to measure 2.4 lbs? and measure off exactly
100 sq. ft.? How exact do I have to be (this is where my apprehension with
chemicals comes in)?

When I just water with Miracid every now and then, I'm not being very exact.
Should I just stop worrying about it unless I see some yellow leaves? Does
chlorosis look like all yellow leaves or yellow leaves with green veins or
????

Thanks again,
