Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Welcome

Thank you for the welcome, Sherryl. I live in Boise, Idaho, zone 5 usually
(much of the city is in zone 6), but on an average of every ten years the
temp drops to zone 4 range, so I try to plant accordingly. I have a very
large vegetable garden and several herb beds, but I'm trying to amend the
soil in one shady bed, shaded by trees and a basket-weave fence, to
accommodate Solomon's seal, hellebores, etc. I have Asarum caudatum,
houttuynia cordata, and aconitum planted there now, along with (I hope
surviving) a variegated Jacob's Ladder. I love hostas, but they're in a
partly shady bed in front of our house, fighting it out with field bindweed
and Bishop's weed (I'll entertain suggestions for eliminating either or
both, short of nuking them). I'm primarily here to lurk and learn.
Margaret
