Hi Diana,

I want to suggest one of my favorite perennial catalogs. You get "liners",
or small potted plants but they always do super for me. Bluestone
perennials can be contacted at 1-800-852-5243 and their catalog is free.
 They're also online: http://bluestoneperennials.com/

I've ordered from Bluestone the last 2 years and agree that it's a good way to
go when you have more time than money. A few of the small "liner" plants
didn't look too good (dead?) when I got them but most of them recovered after
I put them in the ground. Bluestone cheerfully replaced them anyway. Most of
the plants did look good though, esp the ones in the intermediate size.

Another plant I am tempted by is Clethera Hummingbird (shrub actually). Has
anyone grown this? The description says only 1-2' tall which would be ideal
for a border I want to make to separate my backyard (10'x10') from my
neighbor's.

I just planted this one (gal. cont.) last August (?) down by our pond. I was
told it is intensely fragrant, attracks hummers?, and a choice plant for wet
or deeply shaded areas. The nursery here describes it as:
Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird' (Hummingbird Clethra), compact form of
 C. a. 'Paniculata' (Summersweet Clethra), height 3' - 5', spread 3'-4', zone
4
Note the size difference from the descr you got. (This nursery's size descr
for 'Paniculata' is height 3'-8', spread 4'-6')
