Judy:

I live in Lansing.  Think about planting some Trilliums if  you don't have
them already, also Jack-in-the pulpits.  I always associate the western half
of the State with these plants.  There is an annual trillium festival at PJ
Hoffmaster State Park about mother's day.  Primroses also would be excellent.
What kind of soil are you dealing with?  I know some areas on that side are
quite sandy.  Since they do well at Hoffmaster, I assume they'd do well for
you.
