I posted this a day ago- but i find out there is a four post limit per day on
this list so it bounced back to me
<<Several times I have tried to rescue C. acaule, the pink ladyslipper (very
common hereabouts in scrubby second-growth pine woods), but with little
success, even taking very large amounts of soil along. >>
In the past thousands and thousands of these plants were dug from the wild
and sold mail order - I would wager that 95 percent died. This is not a plant
that takes well to being uprooted and moved to a new location. when I have
seen them growing in the wild-they have been growing in many different
locations including pine needle mats on large rock formations. The key seems
to be a constant moist soil that is not wet. they will grow in shade or in a
sunny location. C. acaule is really not a good choice for rescue, pretty much
setting your self up to fall.
