Hi Tamara,
Pinellia is related to our Jack in the Pulpit, or Arisaema. One even
resembles our Green Dragon or A. dracontium in foliage. Probably the first
thing you would notice about them is they bloom from emerging in the spring
until frost kills the back above ground. They form clumps over the years
from seeds and offsets. They originate from Japan and Asia. The ones you
will most likely find in specialty catalogs are P. pedatisecta, P.
tripartita and P. ternata. P cordata is beginning to get into the catalogs
now along with two or three interspecies hybrids. people who collect the
Jacks usually get around to these.
