I agree totally with Silke and Marge. If you bought a TV and it didn't work
when you got it home--wouldn't you try to get the situation righted? Only
the worst of the worst nurseries would not accept responsibility if plants
died in shipment.
   That said, most places post a policy that requires you to prove, or at
least complain quickly, about dead plants, which is certainly fair from
their point of view--how else are they going to know that you are telling
the truth?
   I'm perplexed by some people's hostility toward mail-order nurseries. I
rely on them heavily, and have had very, very few problems. Which nursery
are you speaking about? I know that there are some cut-rate ones like
Michigan Bulbs that people complain about. Some other low-cost places like
Bluestone send very small plants that are in good shape but that you have to
nurture to prevent from getting swamped by bigger plants. And, as others
have said, you really can't expect any new plant (from a mail-order place or
a garden center) to thrive once the weather has turned hot.
