OK. I called my friend who grows these, and sells them. Lots of
water and shade are givens. Here is a bit more information.
Darmera won't do in a pot as it has shallow roots and needs lots of
room to spread sideways. It flagged in the hot weather we had here
last month (a record high of 32 C, around 90 F).
Astilboides is very slow to establish here. If you want a quicker
return, plant some Rodgersias.
