Al, I think our heat is the problem for these. I haven't given up trying, but lost my Darmera. My next step is to try them close to our creek. If moisture is a problem, and it often is in our climate, you may want to think of a very large pot sunk in the ground with no drainage holes? Just an option....

Anelle, thanks for your enthusiastic note on valerian. Guess I'm going to have to put that on my list of things to get and try. We've got room for anything (famous last words) :-)
