Hi Pottsey,
I have a couple of Hyacinth astilbes that are almost 3 feet high and a
good 2 feet wide. They look like little bushes. Their leaves remind me
of a shrub rose. Mine have bloomed twice this year with 4 ft plumes.
I have them grouped with columbines, ferns and impatiens. It gives a
very full and pleasing look.
I never really liked them either but, I gave them a try and now I am
hooked. I have one for a ground cover, a couple medium sized ones
and I have a couple large white ones to fill in around my lilies.
I'll bet if you gave one a try you would find that they are very nice
plants with many uses.
Hope this helps,
Bye, Cyan-zone 4
