I don't have this particular plant but I do have many Alocasias and two
different Colacasias one being 'black magic' - I have noticed the amount of
sun that reaches these plants will affect the coloration in the leaves.  I
know with the 'black magic' that the more direct light he receives the less
the black is noticeable in the foliage.  It sounds to me that the younger
leaves are receiving less light therefore maintaining their darker foliage.
