pulling trees/organic options

Hi all,

I too have woods full of Lonicera maackii and have had to
go looking for options. Roger Swain(of Horticulture Mag)
reccommends a "Weed Wrench" invented by Tom Ness.
It gives an 18:1 mechanical advantage, and can let ordinary
mortals pull up 2" diameter trunks. Unfortunately for me
my woods are on a steep slope with the midstory limited
to honeysuckle and multiflora rose-if I pull, I loose my topsoil.
I have been cutting the trunks, then, using an old-fashioned
library paste jar, painting the stumps with Round-Up.
I like the salt idea and intend to give it a try.
Thanks, Betty
