Re: [SG] seeking advice

Some ferns such as Ostrich - Matteuca and Athyrium, the lady
ferns have rootstalks that run. Others such as the Osmundas -
Cinnamon and Interrupted have very tough roots and osmunda fiber
is used by orchid growers. Still others like Adiatum - maidenhair
have compact root systems.

If you are, or even if you're not, having a hot dry spell, I
would wait until late August before attempting to move them.
Except for the Osmundas, which are difficult to divide except with
an axe, you should e able to divide them at the same time. My
procedure is to dig them and plop them in a pail of water, plant
them in their new location and give them a thorough soaking.
