HELP = Building new garden beds

Hello everyone - I just finished building a large patio behind my
subdivision ranch type home. Now I am in the process of planting shrubs in
gardens beds.

I have dug up the topsoil in the beds down to about 10 inches, and mixed 1
cu ft bag of Miracle Grow Garden Soil Mix, to each 14 heaping shovel fulls
of soil. Supposably, this MG soil is used as a soil conditioner, to mix with
your present soil when planting.

When I finish with all the planting, I am going to wait till this winter to
gather loads of leaves to use as mulch around the shrubs. Can anyone suggest
anything else about what I've said, so that I can do a better job of it? I
want to make it as maintenance free as possible.

Here I am in July in the New Orleans area. It's hot, high humidity. and
starting to rain almost every afternoon. Thanks for any help you can give
me. Cajun Joe = cajun4@home.com
