Dear All,
I don't know if you remember, but during the winter we had a discussion about
growing hellebores from seed. I ordered some from Elizabethtown Hellebores.
I thought I'd give an update and I know some of you have grown and had
success with seed from them before. Well, I planted the seed immediately when I got
them and put them in the fridge for 5 weeks. Then I put them under lights
until it warmed up. So far I have had three of one variety germinate and I
planted them carefully (following Marge's instructions in her excellent article).
Now my question. The rest of the seed has not germinated. However, in some
of the flats, the seed has pushed its way to the surface and it sitting on top
of the soil/gravel (I put the gravel over the seed to prevent algae). The
seed still seems viable, it's not mushy or anything. Yesterday, when I
transplanted the three that had germinated, I covered up the remaining seeds with more
gravel and decided to be patient. What do you think? Did I do the right
thing?
Also, I was going to email this to Elizabethtown Hel. but was not able to get
to their site. It said I was "forbidden" to go there (ha). Has anyone else
tried there lately. While I'm on the topic of growers, has anyone ordered
from Asiatica?
