The same thing happened to mine, about a week after I planted it.  Mine had
two small (about 1.5") branches with embryonic leaflets, both of which
disappeared.  The 'bases' (crowns?) from which the branches grew are still
green and firm.  No other plants near it were damaged, and I don't get deer
or rabbits.  I am hoping it went into a little transplant shock and will
put out new leaves when it recovers.
