Evening all:

I believe that some cultivars of the red Japanese maple require some sun to
keep the red coloration.  If kept in full sun, I suggest keeping the trees
well watered and mulched.  Otherwise, you run the risk of leaf scorch (a
browning effect of the leaf tips).
