An annual named nicandra or shoo-fly plant is available now in a varigated
form. This blooms in the shade among the hostas and ferns. The flowers are
similar to a small petunia in a good shade of blue. The variegated form is
best planted in a group of three or more as it grows tall and a bit lanky.
The variegated plant is a better form than the green. It blooms all summer
with the added benefit of good foliage.

I have noticed that yellow in a sizeable splash lightens a shady area
appearing dull. One of the bright gold hostas is as useful as a flowering
plant and is not limited to a season.
