I find the best time to divide and move the ASTILBE is three weeks after they
are done blooming, Cut off the old flower heads so the plants do not put
energy into seed production and water well for a few weeks after.
If the ASTILBE are old mature plants you will need a good sharp knife to cut
the roots-make each piece with two to four stems and you will have a nice
sized plant next year. ASTILBE take two/three years to get established.
ASTILBE are heavy drinkers I had a large 'Cotton Candy' in a one gallon pot
that I had to water twice a day to keep in happy, I am glad it's gone but it
would have been a nice sight to see it bloom. It had 15 flowering stems and
was 10 days or so away from flowering. ASTILBE are great plants if you can
make them happy.
