I gave up on them after having them do this and either die a slow death or
just look plain ugly. I now grow dwarf Chamaecyparis because it looks great
all year round and the foliage is better (IMO). There are so many beautiful
dwarf conifers with beautiful foliage some that do well in shady positions,
and when my wish list is done (hah!) my new gardens should look
evergood-green-blue-gold even in winter. I haven't even started on the
Cryptomeria list!
