calla lilies

Does anyone have tips on growing these from bulbs? I started two pots, and
they grew beautiful leaves really quickly but they have yet to show any
signs of flowering. Now the leaves seem to be dying down. In one pot, in
fact, they collapsed during last night's rain. I have these plants in about
3-4 hours of sun where similar ones last year (given to me already in bloom)
flowered for well over a month. Someone who has them in bloom now told me
they need a lot of fertilizer. Is this right? I assume that as bulbs the
energy for this year's blooming is all set, and I've only been giving them
weak liquid balanced organic fertilizer every other week.
