Re: Seek Japanese Maple Discriptions?

Well, Joe, Dirr rates them from zones 5 or 6 to 8, so you may be
pushing the envelope, but Mountain Maples,
http://mountainmaples.com/cgi-bin/hardiness.cgi/echcbffhg has a list
up of cultivars that they say do better in warmer climate areas like
yours...

Many of them do well in light shade. Some need sun, but preferably
morning only. In general, they are not fast growing trees.

Foliage Gardens, about whom I recently wrote an article
http://suite101.com/article.cfm/shade_gardening/33943 - which has a
link to the site and an email link - specializes in ferns and
Japanese maples. Sue Olsen is ferns and her husband, Harry, is
maples. I have found Sue extraordinarily nice via email...why don't
you write to Harry (I'm sure he's as nice as Sue) and ask him if he
can recommend any cultivars that would grow well in your climate.
They have good information about these trees on the site, too.
