Bill,
You are one lucky guy! I love E. rubrum and wish mine would walk a little
faster! 40 years is a goodly spell though isn't it? My favorite Epimedium
flower is E. grandiflorum 'Lilafee' a beautiful violet/white bicolor. But
my favorite Epimedium leaf is E. versicolor 'Sulfureum'. I love the red
stitching around the edge of the green leaves and then the solid dark red
fall/winter color.

While not invasive, I would call Epimedium x rubrum aggressive. About 40
years ago I brought up a few clumps from my Dad's garden and used them to
line the entrance to a woodland path. I have had to divide them to keep them
from enroaching on the path. consequently, they now line the length of my
driveway and the border of a flagstone walk. in addition they now form a
border on the side of my neighbor's garage and I must have, over the years
given away hundreds of plants. Other Epimediums I have are not overly
aggressive. The over-wintering foliage of the plants outside my driveway
gate have been eaten by deer.
