Re: Epimedium

Epimedium versicolor Sulfureum was my first epimedium purchased. It did
well in my old garden, and I brought 3 starts of it to the new one. This
exchange reminded me to go out and see if there is any new growth, and
voila, all 3 plants are showing signs of life. No thuggery yet in either
garden, although the original patch is quite good sized and trimming out
the old growth in spring is challenging. If Martha thinks this plant is a
thug, I'd hate to see what she'd say about some of the other plants I
grow, like Yellow Archangel and Chinese Basil (Perilla frutescens
'Atropurpurea').

E. youngianum 'Niveum' was my second epimedium. At the old house it barely
holds its own after approximately 10 years and can just be seen with the
nekkid eye. It is very cute, but my heavens! I didn't bother bringing it
to the new place, nor did I bring X Rubrum. I just didn't care for it all
that much. Maybe I'll try 'Lilafee' and some of the other newer ones. But
if I only had one Epimedium--which, in fact, I do--it would be versicolor
Sulfureum.
