Hi!

I'm just writing to introduce myself. I started gardening about 6 years ago, but aside from reading magazines and newspaper articles, I've been playing it mostly by ear.

I've been growing roses (initially, hybrid teas, climbing, floribunda and now rose bushes -- which I really like because of their hardiness here in Northern Illinois). A couple of years ago, after moving to a new home, I had a large area filled with dirt mounds on the side of our house. Since I've transformed it into a shade/partial shade garden, growing primrose, hostas, begonias. I have installed low voltage lighting, stepping stones (so that the meter reader can do his/her job without stepping through the mulch) and use a buried soaker hose for watering which has worked very well.

I'm looking to enhance the color of my garden this year, so I look forward to participating in this forum and probably mostly "listening" to all of you for your ideas and wisdom.

Regards,
Gary Friedlander
