nancy, go ahead and choose whichever or all the different trilliums that
you like. They do just fine in dappled shade in the spring and then go
dormant for the rest of the year. Just mulch over the area where they
were and they will be just fine. The roots go busily on and the tops
vanish completely away. The only trick is not to dig over them while
planting something else!!
I actually have planted epi-medium (barrenwort) with them in almost the
same planting hole. This serves 2 purposes. I know where they are when
they are no longer visible, and it gives a lovely edging around the
trillium. I LOVE epimedium more and more each year!!
