Aluminum flashing

Hi all,
I was thinking of partially burying aluminum flashing as a "border"
around some of my plants to keep some of my groundcovers from invading.
While reading Marge's message quoting Bob Stewart, he says the following
- "Aluminum sulfate is often sold for lowering soil pH but in general
it's best to go with iron sulfate in order to avoid potential aluminum
toxicity
problems."
My concern is his mention of aluminum toxicity. In a recent thread on
moss, there was a mention of copper roof gutters installed and most
everything in the drain field killed. Apparently the copper breaking
down and/or giving off something that is toxic to plants.
Putting these two things together got me to wondering if using the
aluminum flashing would be a bad idea. Would I end up with aluminum
toxicity killing the plants or whatever. It was originally an idea I had
for an area at my mother's house where I took a "wild" area across the
back of the property (approx 10' x 80') and have put in mostly
groundcover with scattered hostas, ferns, and a few other things. It was
to be a time-saving measure to keep the groundcovers from invading the
hostas, etc. I just hope this isn't going to be a wasted effort. I'm
facing a solid carpet of garlic mustard :-(( Was hoping I had that
problem taken care of last year, oh well........... the joys/nightmare
of garlic mustard......
