To all who wonder why they don't bloom every year and equally profusely:

No one I know throughout the ARS has a clue about what to do.  Plants that are
well established and healthy exhibit this behavior.  My solution is to plant a
lot of them and enjoy them when they do bloom.

The only solution that I can recommend is to follow the advice to be found at
www.soilfoodweb.com.  Rhododendrons have a very complex environmental
relationships with the soil.
