Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply, I never thought of the Maidenhair fern. I have
just read up about it in one of my books.  It says it is 12 in high and
half-hardy, so it should be OK in my corner as it is sheltered by 2
walls.  My book says some varieties of Adiantum (Maidenhair ferns) like
neutral soil (as mine is) so I think I'll try it.  It also says it has
black stems - this interests me very much.

Any other ferns with black stems out there in the plant world??? please
let me know.
