Re: [SG] dogwood

My daughter and I were just out in the garden ...yeah I know wierd type
gardeners who were trying to look at stuff in the dark.
While there, my daughter suddenly says what is it with that dogwood? It
blooms are huge! I, of course, had not even noticed it. But the blooms are
huge...must be 4.5 to 5 inches across...almost looks like a magnolia bloom.
Makes the blooms on the all my other dogwoods look puny and dwarfs..
This is a volunteer dogwood.
Can dogwoods within a close distance (i.e., same growing conditions) have
such a difference in bloom size? All my other ones have a "normal" size
bloom.
Is it possible this is a mutation or something?
Is it just very happy?
Was it therapeutic touch, cause I grab this tree when I am wading into the
bed that it grows in.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
