Hi, Gail. The soil varies in depth; in some areas, you could dig as far as
four feet without hitting sand. In my front yard, the topsoil is an inch
or two covering sand. This is a heavy, golden sand...not the pale sand
that one finds on beaches. I recently heard this referred to as 'Michigan
blow-sand' by a local farmer. Any info anyone could give me on this soil
and how to work with it would be appreciated! It makes a good underlayer
in the areas where the subsoil is plentiful, but is useless for all but
lawn in the primarily blow-sand areas.
