Pottsey,
I finally planted two annabelles in a location that I had tried about
everything in. It has very low light and is dry. They were just planted
last year and are getting ready to bloom, and have quadrupled in size. I am
looking into more. One I saw last year in a garden was hydrangea pannicula.
It is very attractive and I plan to get it. I also have H. Pia, which I have
been told is questionable in zone 5, but two out of three have thrived and
bloomed the last two years (the other I thing needs to be dug and the soil
improved). I have some others but they haven't bloomed. In zone 5 I have to
be sure they bloom on the new wood, or they won't bloom. Anyone out there
know the species that bloom on new wood for us Northerners?
