Re: [SG] Daphne Carol Macke

Hi Kay

Same thing happened to me, with my 5,6, 7 yr old Carol Macke (s).
One bit the dust last year. Yes, they like sandy soil and that might
have something to do with it...the lifting out of roots so easily.
But the stems also are prone to crack, that is, split under the
weight of snow. Did either the listing or the craking prevent bloom?
NOPE!

I staked, prodded it upright, mounded compost around, etc. and the
thing would still list all the time. and then of course, it got
floppy too- the middle would be open - as in what you should be
doing to apple trees or something.

Last year under the weight of snow, one finally listed right out of
the ground ;-(

So now, I have only one. I still would not be without it.

Anyone know about the pruning of it? When I bought it I was told
never to prune it as it didn't take it.

So, Kay, I guess the listing, or lack of good roots is part of the
plant.
