Bobbie:

Here in New England they are called shadblows also. It is because they bloom
at the time the shad were swimming up the rivers to spawn. We also call them
serviceberry. They are susceptable to a number of diseases, lacewing fly,red
spider,various scales and fire blight. Have had one for years with no problem.
They are slow growers, therefore rather expensive.
