Re: hostas blooming

Kris,
I realize that this is a bit late to comment on blooming hostas, but I am
just getting around to reading my e-mails and am jumping around. I have
about 4 hostas blooming in the garden even though they have been thru a
frost. One of them desn't even have any leaves left...as it went down some
time ago. Also, I have found in plants that have been newly planted, it
confuses the bloom times on the plants. I think it would be impossible to
identify them by the flower. In Kevin Walek's talk at our club on Saturday,
he was asked about plants that had flowers with colors other than what they
were supposed to have. It seems that between soil conditions and tissue
culture, even the colors vary in the extreme. But if you are trying to ID a
plant, I would keep a note on the color , height of scape and date of bloom
to help you in the spring when the leaves emerge. I find that the flowers
are only a tool to help me replace lost tags.

Betty
