Re: [SG] Welcome

Welcome Cynthia!

Well, you have come to the right place for help <BG>

May I say that the most important thing right now for you is the
planning, and the amendments that you make to your "soil". "If you
don't put it down there, it doesn't come up above"!

So, for now, consider bringing in compost, peat, and manure. Tons of
it! and then take the winter to think about what you want to plant.
Take out all weeds, raise the level of the soil in the beds to at
least 10 inches, make you pathways and start a list of plants that
you might like to acquire.

Also you might tell us more about your place. Zone _hardiness of
plants to acquire, watering conditions, and how manyhours of
work/planting/maintenance that you wish to put in on a weekly basis.
All of these are important to planning your gardens

Also in planning are overall trees/shade; shrubs already there, or
planning for, and then smaller plants. Maple trees make gardening
hard. Seedlings pop up and the roots of the tree come to the surface-
keep that in mind. Tree collars, are needed ( don't plant right next
to the trunk - and do not put soil above 1 foot near the trunk
(border of rocks helps to hold back new soil!)

Keep a list of what you like, how it grows, how big, spreading
behavior etc. Plant in the springtime....

Good luck

Bobbie B, zone 6, Mass.
