Hosta questions

I am looking into adding hostas to my garden and have a few questions:
1) When is the best time to plant them? I am in zone 9 and have been
told fall rather spring is our prime planting season. If now is the
time, is it too late to get them from mail order suppliers?
2) I am looking for varieties that have small growth habits
(preferably no more than 1.5-2 feet tall and spreads no more than 2
feet). And I like variegated (any color combination) and blue forms.
So far I am considering 'Halcyon', 'Ginko-Craig', and H. fortunei
'Aureo-Marginata'. Any others you would recommend?
3) How big are the plants that suppliers ship (gallon? 3" pots?)? How
long can I expect it to take for the plants to reach mature size?
4) What are your favorite suppliers for hostas?
I am a novice gardener (only been at it for a year) and have much
appreciated all the tips on this list. Hope you all don't mind my
pestering you with questions! :-) Thanks a bunch!
