Hello,
There is no shortage of plants that will grow in your raised bed under the
maple tree. First question. I am assuming you are speaking of flowering
perennials? How large is the bed to be when completed? That will decide to
a large extent the plants that will fit your needs. You can have blooms
from March through September or October just by using the woodland plants
native to your area.
How about just a bit more information and I will get back to you.
Incidentally, if I were placing a rich, compost filled, bed beneath a
maple I would put a bottom in it of some type barrier. Otherwise you will
find the maple tree roots filling your bed in 3 or 4 years from now.
