modern "weaker" Siberians?

Leroy,

I have not found this to be true for modern Siberians. Granted, I plant my
Siberians deeper than advised and they always bloom almost
never in the first year and sometimes not until the second year. But when
they get 'going', they outperform some of the older ones. This is NOT true
with the modern TBs here (for me) in Zone 3. In the temperate rain forest we
live in, rot was incredible this year in the bearded of
all classes and almost in all of the TBs. I ditched almost more than I could
save with cleaning out the rot and dusting with Comet cleanser.
But the Siberians are doing great.

I also plant roses deeper than recommended which is a trick I learned by
trial and error and then found out it is common practice in very cold
climates. I never plant any rose that does not have its own root. Grafts are
not welcome in Zone 3.

Again, I have not found that to be the case...will report more in June.

have to get packing...

Cheers,
