Margaret -- the height is certainly unusual and worth keeping an eye on for
introduction, particularly if it grows that tall when you send it to a couple
of other gardens. If you aren't familiar with how to check if it is
tetraploid, if you send me some pollen next year, I'd be happy to check it out
for you. Spontaneous tetraploids (from diploid parents without any chemical
treatments such as colchicine) do occur, but rarely. I wrote about one example
I found in our garden a couple of years ago in TSI. Since then this
"spontaneous" tetraploid has proved fertile with other tet Siberians and I
have a row of seedlings from it. So it can happen by chance.
