Re: Popularity Polls - pro or con

Hi Ellen, and robins,
the AHS has a journal, similar to the AIS journal, and all regional and
national pop poll winners are in it. There is a pull or cut out page to vote
on the pop poll in this journal. In addition, my regional publication has a
pop poll page, and lists all the winners and runner ups in our region. In
addition, the RVP usually writes to the membership via the regional
publication to drum up voters. Finally, the vote can be online as well, or by
email to the tabulator for the region.
Your second question, about Sections, is a good one. In the AHS, there are
no named sections, and you can vote for any type of daylily in the pop poll.
There are, however, divisions for different flower forms in both the judges
voting for national awards, and for flower show judges to vote. In most
formal flower shows, there are distinct sections.
I have noticed that the American Rose Society, and the Orchid Society, also
have different sections or divisions for voting on different forms by judges
for national awards. Jim
