Sibcal?

Hi all,
I have been a silent member for some time, but have a few questions to ask,
so here i am.
I grow a few Siberian irises, and will buy more now that we have moved to a
more suitable climate, with rich, moist soil, and less searing hot summers.
I also grow lots of seedling PCI's, a few Louisianna irises, hundreds of
beardeds, and have been growing many interesting things from the SIGNA and
BIS seed exchanges.
Two years ago I collected a few seeds from a pod set on Coolabah. I assumed
these were selfed at the time, even though i had vaguely (playfully) dabbed
a bit of PCI pollen (Deepening Shadows) on to the stigmatic lip. I had not
taken any precautions to prevent self pollenation. I just happened to have
only 2 beardless iris flowers in bloom in my garden, and had never
pollenated a Siberian iris before.
I grew 5 seedlings from this pod, and thought nothing more about them,
having labelled them as Coolabah X self. It didn't occur to me that they
were anything but that, until my other siberian irises went dormant, and
these 5 seedlings stayed wide awake and healthy looking, throughout the
year.
The foliage is very much like the siberian foliage - softer, lighter green
and a little wider. The plants are coping with the hot weather better than
my PCI's. I am hoping to see flowers on them by next Spring.
My question is - How can I tell if they are Sibcals for sure?
I know their pod parent was a siberian. I watch my seedlings pretty closely.
I grow them on widowsills with jiffy pots, and check them everyday for
little green points of growth. I keep everthing well labeled.
Even so, I have to be prepared to accept that someone MAY have fiddled with
my labelling at the seedling stage, and these are actually PCI's. This is
still highly unlikey, given my overbearing scrutiny. (No, I was never like
that with my children :-)
How might the blooms differ from Siberian or PCI blooms if they are what I
think they are? What sort of things (growth habits, flower form, etc) should
I be looking out for?
Thanks in anticipation, for your help,
Good to see some life in the list,
Cheers, Jan Clark, zone 8ish, Australia
