Melanie,

Don't give up on LBS too soon. A number of plants (not just irises) will
shed all their leaves under these circumstances. Watering too often can
actually hurt a plant so cut back to watering when the top 1/2" of soil
feels dry. If there's any chance at all that the roots are alive, throw a
large pot over the thing to give it shade, then sit back and wait a couple
of weeks.
