Re: OT: BIO:Melanie Tornberg

I would recommend some non destructive testing as a first step. Do whatever
it take to be able to examine the top of the rhizomes. If the rhizomes are
hard, then simply cut back on the watering to something like once a week. If
the rhizomes are soft, remove the clump and save any firm pieces of
rhizomes. Treat them with whatever technique you use for soft rot. Bleach
cut 10 to 1 works as a dip or drench.

I once planted rhizomes in mid July because the weather guessers said sea
breezes for a week. The week lasted 7 hours, not 7 days. TEmperatures were
105+. Irises didn't look all that good but by October you could not detect
any difference from a nearby bed that was planted in much more favorable
weather.
