I expect that is all too true but I meant true dwarf siberians. The several
that I have never exceed 10 inches ( around 20/25 cm.) and are true small
sized plants. They do not grow in varying heights no matter what the growing
season or placement in the garden. When I asked the question, I did not know
if others were out there and I just had never seen them. There are groups of
plants that are not in commerce, one acquires them by gifting and trading.
Black market irises, I guess.
I have the Siberian dicussed here often, Flight of Butterflies, I hope I have
that correct, it is hard to write without notes and books handy. The clone I
have has very thin and delicate grassy-like foliage. It seldom exceeds one
foot (30 cm.). It is a perfect rock garden plant though not very vigorous.
Others have large and stronger plants.
It is, however, persistent, and useful where I finally planted it. Some of
these plants carrying a registered name do not in any way perform as the
registration describes the plant. I expect this is the exception rather than
the rule. I was annoyed with that "Flight" plant for years until it dawned on
me that it had possibilites outside a large perennial border. Now it is
asked for by friends. It does, as most Siberians here, need two years at
least to recover a transplant.
I have tried putting the divisions in pots and keeping them in optimum
conditions for the summer and this helps - some, not a miracle. It is also a
lot of extra work.
