Germination methods for wide crosses

From: timothy_hall@css.mot.com

Hello group.
I was fortunate enough to receive several tetraploid Cal Sibe seeds from Dr. Thomas Tamberg. Since I have only a very few I am reluctant to spoil them by incorrect germination technique. Dr Tamberg recommends slicing off the tip of the seeds after a period of soaking, and then stratification at 1 degree C. followed by germination on sterile media. I tried soaking three of the seeds and was sucessfull in removing the outer husk. Sectioning is the problem. Whick end of the seed do I cut? they appear to be roughly spherical with no one likely place to cut. Can I avoid the cutting process altogether Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also are any of Dr. Tamberg's Cal-Sib tertaploids commercially available?
Thanks for the help
Tim Hall
