My sympathies, Leroy!
Last year I had a hail storm that dumped about 4 inches of pea-sized hail on
my home and garden in early May. Most of the bearded iris bloom was lost, but
there was a silver lining in the clouds-- my Siberian iris stalks were far
enough down in the foliage to escape damage and I was able to win the Silver
Medal at the Colorado Springs show in June.
My Siberians came through for me again this year. A hard freeze knocked out
most of the bearded irises (for the second year in a row!), but the Siberians
were largely unaffected. I took some scruffy bearded irises and 5 dynamite
Siberian stalks to the show and got the Bronze medal. It's been a bizarre
year here too.
OFF SHE GOES opened for me for the first time today. Very pretty.
Lynda--enjoying her *short* Siberians
