Siberians are blooming much shorter here and doing some strange things too.
Temperatures really cool lately..brrrrr...
We had the worst hail storm since we have been at the Stepping Stones
address. Varying degrees of damage throughout lilies, Siberians, bearded
iris, Hosta. The hail and wind snapped most of the flower stems off of
Shaker's Prayer. Quite a few of the plants have had bloom stalks snapped
off. Foliage is bruised and pock-marked.
Fortunately it did not last long enough to beat everything to a pulp.
Bearded iris came through in better shape, just the currently open blooms
have been tattered.
As for good blooms, Windwood Spring looking really good, Illini Charm very
nice as usual and came through the storm really well. The species Siberians
looking really pretty, many forming balls of color above the vertically
graceful foliage - excellent for viewing from a distance.
