Yes..but I have think the sort of rot I see in my bearded irises is
principally what I have loosely termed 'rain rot' rather than
bacterial rot. Almost never do I detect a stinky odor but I have on
rare occasions.
I treat all rot the same on bearded irises: clean out the slimy area
(with a small spoon but have been known to use a gloved hand),
sprinkle Comet liberally on the spot and let the sunlight beat down on
it. And sometimes I have just left the 'rot' there and let the sun do
the trick with the feeling that if they can't take my weather, they
don't belong in my garden. If it is stinky I always clean it out being
careful to use disposable plastic spoons on bacterial soft rot.
I have never seen rot on my beardless irises just on the newer Tall
Bearded and a few Medians but I have seen it on Miniature Dwarf
Bearded too (rarely).
I am still writing from the Sibrob where I am forced to read the posts
altho' I rec'd 6 messages tonight in my mailbox...strange one from
tonight and the others earlier in the week.
