Siberians are beginning to bloom here. Many of them have short bloomstalks.
Plants that were waist high last year are about knee high this year. Even
stalwarts like Summer Sky and Kobana are affected. We've been trying to
figure out the cause. We have had almost no rain in April and May this year
(today is our first real rain since March) which is very unusual in New
England where we usually have ample spring rains. While we water transplant
in weather like this we do not usually think about watering established
clumps of siberians which seem to handle our occasional summer droughts quite
well. I am curious as to whether other people have noticed shortness in
their siberians this year and if so is it connected to spring drought or do
you have any other ideas about the cause. Perhaps this may also be the cause
for shortness in siberians in climates like California, Oklahoma and Texas.
